My Approach
I've spent the last decade as a counselor in Maine, primarily working as an outpatient therapist within the school system. Through this experience, I've gained a profound understanding of the challenges individuals face when trying to navigate many systems that may not always accommodate their unique needs, whether due to individual differences with peers, adjustment to life transitions, or difficult times when oftentimes, kids are expected to simply soldier on.
I believe in leading with creativity and compassion, and know that this allows for time and trust in building the relationship. I enjoy finding ways to understand kids on a deeper level and find that when they feel "seen", they often will feel safe to "open up" and discuss what they need. I understand that traditional counseling may not resonate with everyone, especially children and adolescents, so I've found working in a range of creative and "out of the box" ways can facilitate healing and growth.
As a relationship-based therapist, I understand that no two situations are alike. I draw from a diverse range of therapeutic modalities, including humanistic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy and family systems therapy, among others
In addition, I believe in the healing power of nature and can offer "walk and talk" sessions, where clients can connect with the outdoors while engaging in meaningful discussions. Nature provides a calming and grounding backdrop for therapeutic exploration and self-discovery.
Within my experiences, I've seen challenges manifest in different ways, including issues with school attendance and schoolwork, changes to relationships with teachers and peers, physical symptoms of anxiety and depression, withdrawal and changes to the relationship within the family.
I understand that each individual is different, and I work to tailor my approach to meet your specific needs, in the hopes of fostering a sense of empowerment and resilience.
Thank you for visiting my website, and I invite you to reach out if you believe I can be a resource for you or your child.
